Abstract

Image inpainting or image completion is a process of reconstructing or recovering missing regions in an image in an undetectable form. The task is traditionally carried out by skilled art restorer in ancient time. Today, with advanced of digital computing and algorithmic research, we are able to automate this process and make this technique easily accessible to everyday users. The technique has a wide range of applications in photo restoration, unwanted object removal, image interpolation, zooming and super-resolution, image compression and coding, and the error concealment of wireless image transmission.
