Abstract

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal of all gynecologic cancers and the fourth to fifth leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. According to the American cancer society, about 140,000 women die of ovarian cancer annually. It is often difficult to diagnose ovarian cancer at early stage and the etiology of it remains poorly understood. As a result, no known effective treatments have been developed to battle against it. There are many conflicting theories about what triggers the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells, however, no conclusion has been made due to lack of experimental and clinical research. Previous research has found a connection between obesity and ovarian cancer, and we suspect cholesterol's promote ovarian cancer cell proliferation. My research work is to find out whether cholesterol's influence ovarian cancer cell proliferation and if so, what pathways are involved. Therefore, I grow human ovarian cancer cell line in RPMI media to experiment it with different metabolites and this picture is taken during regular observation of OVCAR3 cell line under microscope.
