Abstract
Applications of 0.28 kg ai/ha fluazifop-p-butyl + Surfactant WK 0.25% (by. vol), 0.56 kg ai/ha sethoxydim + crop oil concentrate 1%, and 0.56 kg ai/ha DPX-Y6202 + Surfactant WK 0.25% to Agropyron repens shoots interfered with cyto- and karyokinesis of the rapidly expanding leaves within two days after treatment (DAT). A. repens plants treated with these herbicides also developed visual injury symptoms within three days after treatment and, compared to the check, had a significant reduction in dry weight within 12 DAT.
Translocation studies indicated that fluazifop-p-butyl and DPX-Y6202 are translocated acropetally and that sethoxydim is translocated in both directions within the rhizomes. DPX-Y6202, applied to a single shoot of an eight-node rhizome system, suppressed shoot growth (as determined by dry matter accumulation) of aerial shoots developing from the rhizome system.
Screening studies using 1x and 2x rates of fluazifop-p-butyl and sethoxydim, applied to Cotoneaster apiculatus, Potentilla fruticosa 'Gold Drop,' Waldsteinia ternata, Ageratum 'Blue Mink,' Petunia grandiflora F(,1) hybrid 'Pink Flash,' Tagetes erecta 'Cracker Jack Mixed,' and Zinnia elegans 'Giant Double Scarlet' did not adversely affect the plants.
Additional screening studies of ornamental plants treated with 1x and 2x rates of fluazifop-p-butyl, sethoxydim, and DPX-Y6202 did not adversely affect Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Carpet,' Vinca minor, Ageratum 'Blue Blazer,' Lobularia maritima 'New Carpet of Snow,' Tagetes erecta F(,1) hybrid 'Moonshot,' and Petunia grandiflora 'Pink Magic' by four weeks after treatment.
Catharanthus roseus 'Little Mix' sustained a significant amount of visual injury two weeks after treatment from the 2x rate of fluazifop-p-butyl, the 2x rate of sethoxydim, and all rates of DPX-Y6202. By four weeks after treatment all rates of sethoxydim and DPX-Y6202 resulted in significant visual injury to Catharanthus 'Little Mix,' but the plants recovered by six weeks. Flower production by Catharanthus was adversely affected by the herbicide treatments, with the 2x rate of sethoxydim and all rates of DPX-Y6202 reducing flower production for at least six weeks after treatment.
