Abstract
Leisure researchers have devoted considerable attention to the role leisure attitudes play in understanding and predicting leisure behavior. The objective of this study was to make recommendations relative to stimulation and revitalizing attendances at the five Illinois 4-H camps.
Approximately fifteen hundred and thirty 4-H members in the State of Illinois provided the sampling frame. Data collected were designed to measure cognitive, affective, and conative components of the Fishbein behavioral prediction model with the ultimate goal of making recommendations to practitioners regarding program changes and advertisement campaigns.
Results from this study indicate that the measurement of attitude about a specific leisure behavior can predict and contribute to the understanding of a specific leisure behavior.
These findings suggest specifically that definite changes with the 4-H camping program are necessary. Also the findings indicate definite framework and time schedule for a state wide advertisement campaign. This advertisement campaign should be directed not only to the 4-H membership but to important others in their lives such as parents, friends, and especially their 4-H community club leaders.
