Abstract
The use of coulostatic charge injection techniques for the detection of electroactive species separated using high performance liquid chromatography is examined. The techniques examined include the single pulse technique in which the slope of the potential decay is correlated to concentration and the coulostatic pulse amperometric technique in which coulostatic pulses are used to mimic controlled potential amperometry. The single pulse technique gives detection limits of 2 x 10('-10) moles Pb(II) at a mercury electrode. Coulostatic pulse amperometry methods were used to quantitate 4 x 10('-11) moles of caffeic acid at a carbon paste electrode.
The coulostatic pulse amperometric technique was also used to scan potential during analyte elution. Qualitative information (E(, 1/2) values) was gathered for both aminophenols and chlorophenols separated under reverse phase HPLC conditions. The half wave potentials were found to correspond closely to the values found using voltammetry in a still solution.
