Abstract
The interpersonal construal styles of 100 females classified into moderate and extreme levels of Leary's (1957) "quadrant" interpersonal personality types were compared. It was hypothesized that persons classified according to interpersonal typological categories and procedures would in fact encode interpersonal information and make judgments about self and others which were consistent with their self-concepts and/or with interpersonal theory. Results provided converging evidence that the affiliative (Friendly vs. Hostile) and power (Dominant vs. Submissive) types (especially Extremes) made responses to others which were self-consistent and consistent with interpersonal theory's definition of that type. Likewise, while evidence for the quadrant types was not as strong as predicted, findings for the HD group (Arrogant-Calculating persons) were consistent with interpersonal theory.
