Abstract
A new technique of analysis is presented in this thesis. The method invokes the principle of equivalent current sources to formulate a problem of open and enclosed dielectric waveguiding structures so that integral equations can be obtained in which integrations are performed only over a finite and small region whose geometry can be selected by the investigator. Apart from the tremendous saving in computational time, the method has the advantage of its applicability to general structures, i.e., with regard to the geometry of the guiding medium, inhomogenous guiding media, and media which may have complex, dyadic permittivities and/or permeabilities.
