Abstract
This study examined the relationship between the pre and post state anxiety levels of 192 fourth and fifth grade pupils in five school situations. State anxiety was measured by the Modified Low Adjective Checklist, while trait anxiety was measured by the Modified Boxall Anxiety Test.
The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) Pre situational state anxiety levels were significantly higher than post situational state anxiety levels for the administration of a language arts test, a social studies test, and the distribution of report cards. (2) Fifth grade males experienced more post situational state anxiety than fifth grade females regarding the distribution of report cards. (3) Fifth grade subjects experienced more post situational state anxiety than fourth grade subjects for the administration of a mathematics and social studies test. (4) Fourth grade subjects experienced more post situational state anxiety than fifth grade subjects regarding the distribution of report cards. (5) Trait anxiety scores were significantly linked with post situational state anxiety scores of subjects for the administration of a language arts and mathematics test. (6) High trait anxiety scores were significantly linked with high post situational state anxiety scores of subjects for the administration of a mathematics test.
