Abstract
The phylogeny of 21 genera of lower brachycerous Diptera (Diptera: Brachycera) is proposed. This proposed phylogeny is compared with one produced by a rooted Wagner cladistic analysis and by three phenetic analyses: the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, the average taxonomic distance, and the mean character distance. Six out-group genera are included for purposes of comparison.
Morphological characters of each genus are described and illustrated.
