Monmouth has a temperate continental climate with a wide annual range in temperature. Summers are usually hot and humid with 65 percent of the annual precipitation occurring in the warmer half year (April - September). A characteristic winter has occasional severe cold periods and tends to be somewhat colder than winters in East Central and Southern Illinois. Average snowfall of 26.0 inches furnishes approximately 20 per cent of the total precipitation during the colder half year (October - March).
