Sammen are usually hot, and 64 per cent of the annual precipitation occurs in the warmer half-year (April-September). A characteristic winter has frequent severe cold periods, and tends to be considerably colder than winters occurring in Central and Southern Illinois. Average snowfall of 32 inches furnishes approximately
25 per cent of the total precipitation during the colder half-year.
