Abstract
Frequency Disturbance recorder is a device that measures the frequency of the voltage and
current coming out from the outlet. Nowadays, it has been widely used as data collectors in the power
system frequency monitoring network. During the monitoring process, the power grid may
encounter temporary power loss, which results in the frequency disturbance recorder’s data loss.
In order to solve this problem, we designed a backup battery to power up the frequency
disturbance recorder when the power grid is down. Besides, we want to match every voltage
frequency with a real time and location of the frequency disturbance recorder, so that we will be
able to analyze how the frequency behaves before power loss and to plot a power frequency
gradient map. Designed and implemented in this project is a GPS device for a Low Cost FDR
(Frequency Disturbance Recorder) that keeps track of real time and location of the FDR and
saves the recorded data in a local text file located in the microprocessor. With this GPS device,
we will be able to match the measured voltage frequency with a specific date and location.
