Aurora is an industrial and residential city located along the Fox River in southeastern Kane County. The surrounding topography is a ridged plain typical of areas with three stages of the Pleistocene Glacial Period. The generally flat terrain of the area has no effect on the weather or climate of Aurora. The western shore of Lake Michigan lies 35 miles to the east, and the lake does exert some control on weather conditions within 5 to 15 miles of the shore. However, since the region's prevailing winds are from the southwest, the lake seldom produces any effect on the weather experienced at Aurora. Lake modification of the climate is not apparent at Aurora.
