Abstract
"The history of literary study is primarily remembered as a story of conflicting ideas. Many important kinds of change are left out of that story, because they happened gradually or failed to crystallize in a conscious methodological debate. New analytical approaches, like topic modeling, can illuminate those ""quiet transformations,"" revealing that concepts taken for granted as the bedrock of literary studies are both more recent and more variable than scholars commonly assume."
