Wade discusses his twenty-year experience in the Navy especially during the Vietnam War as a Navy SEAL in Southeast Asia and as a stateside recruiter. He recalls growing up in Memphis, TN and describes the tense atmosphere of the town on the day Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed. He discusses his experiences at all-white Catholic schools and recalls the confusion on the day President Kennedy was shot. He reminisces about his father who was in the Navy during WWII. He discusses his change in careers from a Navy veteran to a high school English teacher.
