Abstract
Streams and rivers are dynamic systems in which erosion and sedimentation take place on a continuous basis. When the inflow of
sediment exceeds the normal carrying capacity of the river, sedimentation
will occur. The river will then become shallower with a fairly well defined main channel or will behave like a distributary channel without any defined channel. Natural and man-made constrictions can either accelerate or prolong the normal transition of rivers from one hydraulic state to another.
