Abstract
Here we design and fabricate skin-like forms of thermochromic indicators which could program the displayed patterns. Elastomer is an option for such indicators, which combines the merits of the elastomer material and mechanics design for fully stretchability and conformability, though other forms of flexible indicators have been demonstrated, such as paper displays. Specifically, the color changeable thermochromic display is made of composites from the mixture of elastomer and thermochromic leuco dyes. Such a composite integrates the merits of color changing from the leuco dyes and the mechanical softness and stretchablity. By heating over the transition temperature, the leuco dye could effectively turn its color, for example black, to clear, though with residual gray, in a quick manner. Heaters have been employed to control the leuco dye color switching by heating up. Elastomer-based heater is made of c composites of elastomer and Ag particles, which could retain the electrical conductivity while exhibiting mechanical deformation such as stretching.
