Abstract
A stent is a manmade object inserted in a blood vessel to regularize the flow of blood and prevent obstructions. This stent is usually monitored using computed tomography (CT scan). We are investigating the possibility of using radar cross section (RCS), a tool used in remote sensing to detect the stent. RCS measures the reflection of electromagnetic energy from an object. The tissue is associated with conductivity, permittivity and density of 0.9 S/m, 41 F/m and 1000 Kg/m3 respectively. The stent is assumed to be made of PEC (perfect elcetrical conductor) for the purpose of analysis. This analysis, which includes both simulations and measurements, is going to be used to determine whether we can replace the CT scan and detect the presence of any defect in the stent.
