Abstract: “Operation Sport,” or the development of recreation programs in 1950s Puerto Rico, shows how sports helped in the consolidation of the hegemonic politics of the Partido Popular Democrático. Designed to be a collaboration between the government and industrial workers, these recreational/cultural programs were designed to mitigate the impact of Puerto Rican industrialization.
