Abstract
The project intends to fit ionogram curves of ordinary and extraordinary propagation modes of the ionosphere with Autoscala ionosphere model curves by means of global optimization techniques, to invert ionograms for obtaining electron density profiles and to improve the model itself. The project finds constants for each of the 12 parameters used in the model so that the electron density profiles calculated for given ionograms would have no edges or discontinuities. The model programmed in Python was sped up by code optimization and utilization of external modules written in Cython. The project implements Differential Evolution and Grid Search algorithms written in Cython to find the best match of the ionogram curves. Gaussian masking is applied to the model, as well as ionogram curves in order to simplify the task of finding best match parameters.
