Abstract
A random sample of 3,000 hunters was selected from 2011 Illinois Habitat Stamp and hunting license purchasers. Of the sample of 3,000 hunters, 2,925 questionnaires were deliverable. We received 1,567 (54%) questionnaires; 1,537 of which were usable. License sales remained unchanged from 2010 (282,016) to the 2011 season (282,183). From 2010-11 to 2011-12 seasons, harvests for 7 game species increased (woodcock, groundhog, fox and gray squirrel, raccoon, red fox, and opossum), decreased for 6 game species (rabbit, dove, snipe, crow, gray fox, and coyote), did not change for 1 game species (rail), and could not be compared for 3 game species (wild quail, wild pheasant, and wild gray partridge). Hunters were also asked about their use of free upland game permits, questions about deer hunting, and were also asked to grade Illinois wildlife programs.
