Abstract
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has increased its focus on transfer students to its flagship campus. Freshmen to the University of Illinois are required to take an orientation course, but not all colleges on the campus require the orientation of transfer students to campus. This study surveyed the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 transfer students to the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences to gauge which of the following factors assisted in their acclimation to campus; College-level pre-advising, Transfer Orientation course, and Registered Student Organizations. Findings show that these students were very interested in pre-advising to acclimate to campus, but also felt that Registered Student Organizations assisted in their adjustment to campus.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
