Abstract
"For our video research project, we chose to examine the racial composition of the Greek system at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Amongst concerns of an increasingly segregated community, we felt it would be interesting to examine how different students felt about the make up of one of the larges Greek systems in the nation. We chose to ask interviewees questions regarding their opinion of the presence of ""diversity"" in the different Greek organizations (including Interfraternity Council, Black Greek Council, United Greek Council and the Panhellenic Council), the state of affairs between students of different racial or ethnic backgrounds. Overall, it was our goal to understand if and why the community is segregated, and to examine the ways in which these differences could be overcome."
This collection examines ways in which the U.S. university and the American college experience are affected by diversity, and difference. In particular, these student projects examine experiences of diversity on campus, including important contemporary social, cultural, and political debates on equity and access to university resources.
