Thomas Schroeder grew up in River Grove, Illinois and went to East Lane High school before coming to the University of Illinois. He attended the University from 1976-1980 as a Finance/ Music major that who had little to no involvement in the activist culture on campus. In his experience, he avoided all contact with radical elements on campus by staying heavily involved in his studies, particularly Music, and expresses an idea that any and all radical elements were gone from the campus during his tenure. His experience reflects that of a politically apathetic student during this period. He remains politically apathetic today and continues to not pay particular attention to movements on campus and around the University despite his continued interest in his alma mater.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
