Abstract
This paper was presented at the 2011 CIC Music Education Conference held at Michigan State University. The paper was a response to a presentation by John Kratus. The paper debugs the 3.0 version presented by Kratus through the raising of three concerns: first, a move beyond the utopian perspective taken by Kratus; second, by contrasting the deterministic stance implicit in Kratus' argument with a relational stance; and, third, by providing a pragmatic accounting of sound recording. The paper closes with three questions for consideration by the profession.
