Abstract
This article explores Dalcroze Eurhythmics pedagogy through two events central in the author's education: one, an enriched notion of improvisation in a Dalcroze context through the work of Medeleine Duret; and, two, an experience in a piano improvisation class taught by Marta Sanchez. The author considers how the experiences deepened his understanding through reflection over subsequent years, upending his shallow notions of music and movement. Ideas from John Dewey, Elliot Eisner, Lydia Goehr, and Christopher Small help to frame the experiences in a larger context.
