"The ninth annual Faculty Retreat on Active Learning took place on January 27, 2003, at the Levis Faculty Center. The focus was ""The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning."" The concept of the scholarship of teaching and learning is best defined by keynote speaker, Lee S. Shulman, President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching: ""Viewing teaching as scholarly work is essential. Teachers so often have to carry out their work in isolation from their colleagues. The result is that those who engage in innovative acts of teaching do not have many opportunities to build upon the work of others...we seek to render teaching public, subject to critical evaluation, and usable by others in the field."" Here are six video highlights from Lee S. Shulman's keynote address. A videotape of the full address is available for borrowing from available for borrowing from the Center for Teaching Excellence (217-333-3370)."
