Abstract
The goal of our project was to research Asian American students and their campus involvement. Our question was; why do students on campus choose to participate in the extracurricular activities that they do and more specifically why do some Asian American students choose to partake in predominantly Asian student groups like sororities and fraternities, while others do not? We did observations of student groups on the quad, Asian Americans in religious gatherings and one-on-one interviews to learn how their extracurricular involvement affects their everyday lives when it comes to socializing, dating, friendships, etc. We found that the individual’s ability to relate to their activity was the most influential factor in joining a sorority, the type of sorority they join and the ability to connect to an experience that is the main motivation behind seeking out certain relationships.
