Abstract
This research aims to collect and record experiences of students of budget cuts implemented at the University since 2008 (and the global financial crisis, which had an effect on state budgets and funding at the University of Illinois). I will interview students from both the colleges of Engineering and LAS to see how their experiences of the budget cuts compare, and how each individual views the University as a result of the physical manifestations of budget cuts in their respective courses. So far, I have come to the preliminary conclusion that LAS students see the tangible effects and experience the budget cuts much more than Engineering students do. I would like to further this research by addressing the following questions: Do students in other colleges at the University have the same feelings as Engineering and LAS students have? Does the relative prestige or ubiquity of a department on campus have anything to do with students’ experiences? How do students view the University now compared to how they viewed it before the financial crisis and subsequent budget cuts?
