Abstract
Our research project sought to answer a question about both American and international Asian college students. Does each group have a tendency only to socialize with other Asians (racially, culturally, nationality) like themselves? To answer this we did a large amount of observations at cafes, restaurants, and coffee houses where numerous Asians were congregating. We supplemented this with face-to-face interviews with select individuals we observed. Our observations and interviews found that the answer to our question was affirmative. However, when confronted by outside culture, results could be individual integration, isolation, or a compromise of culture.
This collection examines ways in which the U.S. university and the American college experience are affected by diversity, and difference. In particular, these student projects examine experiences of diversity on campus, including important contemporary social, cultural, and political debates on equity and access to university resources.
