To effectively answer the main thesis question the author conducted a survey, an interview, and found several articles from which he could pull information that would be able to support his argument. The initial question was “what are some of the major factors that play into a student’s decision to buy the computer that they do?” It was found that there really was no definable set of factors, because everyone has different preferences. As the research process progressed, the question evolved into “What are the characteristics of the people that use a given type of computer?” The conclusion reached defines a set of characteristics that users of certain types of computers seemed to align with. The essay also expands upon several key differences between the types of operating systems and computer hardware setups that separate major competitors from each other.
