Abstract
Gauge-balls and glueballs are studied in pure U(1) and SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theories.
In the U(1) theory, numerical measurements of gauge-ball masses are carried out on link and monopole configurations at β = 1.01 on the 16^4 lattice to determine if magnetic
monopoles can account for the lightest gauge-ball masses. It is established that the
monopoles indeed allow to compute the masses of these particles with the exception of
the 2+- state where there is a 17 percent disagreement between link and monopole mass
values. In the SU(2) theory, numerical mass measurements of the scalar and tensor glueballs are performed at β = 2.4, 2.5 on the 16^4 lattice on Abelian projected and monopole configurations. The results indicate that the mass values computed using both methods agree quite well and, in addition, they are in agreement with the results of computations on the full SU(2) configurations by a different group.
