Abstract
The research question that I focused on is students at UIUC who have lost or maybe never learned the language of their parents. Do they feel like they have lost a valuable tie to their culture? I was strongly interested in finding out the connection that language has to identity. I interviewed three UIUC students from different backgrounds and explored what culture meant to them and found out the effect that the University has had on their language acquisition. My research focus was to obtain some form or answer to how these students feel about not being in what could have been their native language.
