Through my research, I examined the benefits and disadvantages that Islam-related courses offered on the UIUC campus have on the way Non-Muslims perceive Muslims. I observed and saw whether taking an Islam-related class helps to change some of the mindsets that students had of Islam and Muslims before becoming a bit more educated on the religion. I also researched whether instructors are addressing these common misconceptions into their curriculum and teaching what is factual about Islam. Does taking Islam-related classes help to change one’s perception of Islam and Muslims?
