- Abstract
- Visibility, access, and preservation were the most important motivations to establish a repository cited by institutions participating in a study “Open Repository Development in Developing and Transition countries” conducted by EIFL and the University of Kansas Libraries. Other motivations included the need to evaluate researchers and departments, and as a response to requests from faculty. The workshop will address the following issues: Making a case: Explaining the need for a repository & the expected benefits; Strategic planning and business cases; Defining scope and planning checklists; Evaluating and selecting a repository platform; Repository policies and legal issues. The workshop participants will be trained on how to: start a repository steering group; identify the champions at the faculty for a pilot project; conduct needs analysis and compile needs report; evaluate available software and decide on which software to use; structure the repository content and define the workflows; address copyright issues; compile a business plan; design a repository policy; and market a repository.
