Abstract
A detailed theoretical treatment is given of the vector mesondominance
approximation of a k2 dispersion relation for any of a large number of
sets of invariant amplitudes for pion photoproduction. The resulting cross
section always has a kinematic singularity; whether or not it is in the physical
region depends on which set is used. The· standard proportionality
between polarized photon and vector meson· cross sections in the center of
mass is recovered at high s for some of the sets discussed.
Support for vector meson pole dominance of a R2 dispersion relation
at high s is found from the investigation of the analyticity of the
box graph as a function of the mass-squared of one of the external particles.
A question is raised concerning the renormalization of divergent diagrams
containing a single vector meson virtual state in the familiar Lagrangian
treatment of vector meson dominance.
