Abstract
9 Be,
12C, 24Mg , 25Mg , 26Mg , and 27Al targets were employed to
scatter a 20.5 MeV 3He beam from the University of Illinois cyclotron. 3He
energy spectra were obtained through the use of solid state detectors in a LiE-E
telescope. Data were taken at laboratory angles of 15° to 115°, in 5° intervals,
and also in 2.5 0 intervals in some cases. Angular distributions were derived
9 for prominent levels corresponding to excitation energies up to 3.03 MeV for Be,
6 . 03 MeV for 10 B, 8 .57 MeV for 11 B, 9.6 4 MeV for l2c, 8. 44 MeV for 24 Mg, 3 . 41 MeV
for 25 Mg, 7.32 MeV for 26Mg , and 4.81 MeV for 27Al . A DWBA analysis with the
computer code JULIE was accomplished, and the collective model deformation parameters
have been extracted. The experimental results are discussed in terms of
the collective model of nuclear excitation.
