Abstract
"Cross sections for the coherent photoproduction
of 71""0 mesons from He3(gammaHe3 -> pi°He 3) were measured for
recoil angles of 200, 300, 400, and 500 from the direction
of the incident photon. A gaseous He3 target was irradiated
by 340 MeV bremsstrahlung; provided by the 'University
of Illinois betatron. The He3 gas was maintained at
liquid hydrogen temperature and at a pressure of slightly
above one atmosphere. The recoil nuclei were observed
with silicon semiconductor detectors. At least one gamma
ray from the pion decay was detected with a lead glass
Cherenkov counter. A coincidence between a semiconductor
detector and the Cherenkov counter triggered an oscilloscope
on which all pulses were then displayed and photographed.
These photographs constitute the experimental
data."
