Abstract
Nuclear resonant elastic photon scattering in the N=50 nuclei B8Sr, 89y , 90
and Zr was measured between 5 and 10 MeV excitation energy. Average elastic
cross sections for natural targets were measured using tagged photons of
resolution 60 to 150 keV and a NaI scintillation detector. Total cross sections were inferred from the elastic cross sections using assumptions of level density, distribution of widths, and average total width.
Nuclear resonance fluorescence spectra were taken using incident bremsstrahlung with endpoint energies of 9.5 and 6.6 MeV and a Ge(Li) detector. Targets of natural Sr, y, and Zr and an enriched 90Zr target were used. Twelve nuclear levels in 90Zr three levels in another isotope of Zr, eleven levels in 88sr, and eleven levels in 89y were identified between 5 and 10 MeV. Values for gfo2/f were determined for each level and spins were deter-mined for eight of the levels. The nuclear resonance fluorescence results are compared with the measured average elastic cross sections.
