Abstract
In an experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory we have searched for neutrino
oscillations of the type Vmu -+ Ve The detector is 1 kilometer from the proton target
and was exposed to a narrow band beam with peak energies of 1.25 and 1.45GeV. We
observe 54 electron events with a background of 31.6 ± 5.6 ± 4.4. The observed excess
of electron events is consistent with oscillations at the level 1.8 ± .8 ± .4%.
