Abstract
This thesis looks at the current landscape narratives at Chatsworth; England’s most visited country house, and proposes new narratives that are more socially inclusive and that cover a broader swath of history. It also proposes a new mode of information dissemination based on the increased use of smartphones and other PDA’s.
In exploring this subject, this thesis looks at the history of tourism and heritage within an English context and then looks at the history of tourism at Chatsworth in particular. As one of the best documented country houses, Chatsworth is uniquely poised to lead the way in new forms of landscape heritage interpretation.
