Abstract
This project focuses on student involvement in the arts on campus and investigates how directly the audience for the performing arts is involved in the selection of the Krannert Center’s programming. On the basis of interviews, the study indicates that the manner by which the Krannert Center engages student populations on campus is rather limited. In addition, the number of participants in the Krannert Center Student Association has dropped and the association has faced difficulties involving the campus. One particular graduate student informant had not been consulted by the Krannert Center staff in regards to what he did or did not want to see, yet at the same time he never considered going to speak to the staff directly about his preferences. The project includes a proposal for continued research.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
