Abstract
This project investigates how African students find their way to the University of Illinois and looks into the African Students Organization to find out how African students fit in the larger UIUC community. On the basis of interviews, the study finds that the organization is not very active and has very few members because African student enrollment at UIUC is low. The author feels that the university needs to provide more opportunities to African students. For example, with regard to study abroad programs, the UIUC has many programs in African countries, but not as many African students have the opportunity to come study at the UIUC. The project includes a proposal for continued research.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
This collection examines ways in which the U.S. university and the American college experience are affected by diversity, and difference. In particular, these student projects examine experiences of diversity on campus, including important contemporary social, cultural, and political debates on equity and access to university resources.
