Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the present research is to compare the cell harvesting capacity of different methods used for oral exfoliation. Our hypothesis is that that the cytobrush method will be the most effective for oral exfoliation purposes.
Method: The principal methods for cell exfoliation for DNA analysis are: the cytobrush, a specially designed scraper, and a sponge designed by Oragene.
Results: None of the methods proved to be significantly different from the others. However, the cytobrush was the most consistent and easiest to use.
Conclusions: Although none of the methods were statistically different, the cytobrush proves to be advantageous due to its easy procedures.
