Abstract
Ackerman and Spray's two-dimensional generalized model considers the degree of compensation between two abilities. Their model contains the multidimensional 2PL compensatory model and the Sympson partial compensatory model as special cases. In this study, an MMLE/EM approach (the Bock and Aitkin method) was used to develop an estimation procedure for the generalized model, and the precision of this procedure was evaluated using both simulated and real data. Computational difficulties and limitations were discussed.
