Abstract
The reactions $\bar pp\to\bar\Lambda\Lambda$ and $\bar pp\to\bar\Sigma\sp0\Lambda+c.c.$ were investigated at an average antiproton momentum of 1.726 $\pm$ 0.001 GeV/c using the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN. Total and differential cross sections, hyperon polarizations, and spin correlation coefficients were measured for these strangeness production reactions. Emphasis was placed on a comparison of the data from the $\bar pp\to\bar\Lambda\Lambda$ reaction with that measured for the $\bar pp\to\bar\Sigma\sp0\Lambda+c.c.$ reaction. A comparison of these complementary channels provides insight into the dynamics of strangeness production.
