Abstract
A systematic study by electron spin resonance and electron-nuclear double resonance at low temperatures of the F-center in KCl, NaCl, LiCl, NaF, and LiF is reported, together with an inconclusive observation of the M-center resonance by fast passage resonance techniques. A description of the high sensitivity superheterodyne paramagnetic resonance spectrometer used in the investigation is given.
The hyper fine coupling of the F-electron to the nearest eight shells of nuclei surrounding the negative ion vacancy has been measured. A root second moment calculated from the measured hyper fine constants is in agreement with experimental slow passage electron spin resonances 0 The discrepancy between theory and experiment in the case of LiF F-centers is resolved g so that the point-ion lattice model theoretical calculations of Gourary and Adrian are in agreement with the experimental results.
