This project examines student perspectives on how college has stayed the same and changed since its early beginnings and how it compares to the college life that is depicted in literature. The author seeks to answer the following questions: What role do parents play in student’s college life? Do parent’s educational backgrounds influence student’s perceptions of college? Does the university play the role of the parent for students that attend? How do students view partying and alcohol? How do romantic relationships and sex play into student’s college life? Based on group interviews, this study concludes that certain literary themes of college life have remained rather constant, while others have changed, in both real life and in literature itself.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
