This project surveys student perceptions of college before coming to the University of Illinois in particular. The author seeks to answer the following questions: What are student reasons for deciding to attend this university? What image does this university portray for students who decided to attend? What were the outside influences on student’s perceptions? What is the experience of immigrant students? How do students on campus view college life? Based on individual interviews of undergraduate students, this study concludes that students value their education highly and choose their secondary institution according to their expectations.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
