- Abstract
- This report presents an overview of selected seismic hazard analysis (SHA) methodologies. First, background information about earthquakes is presented, followed by more rigorous treatment of acceleration attenuation relationships. Commonly used expressions based on regression analysis and random vibration theory-band limited white noise (RVT-BLWN) are discussed. Once the above preliminary information is given, the steps involved in determining site design PGAs are outlined for both deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analyses. Detailed examples of each approach are presented for the same fictitious site, allowing a comparison of the results to be made. Finally, a discussion on varying approaches for computing site design response spectra is presented. The examples for determining site PGAs are continued with site design spectra being computed using the reviewed methods.
